The Yule Farm

The Yule Family Farm - 1906 to Today

James Yule was born in 1836 in Aberdeen Scotland. It is unknown when he came to Canada but he worked as a farmhand on farms in the Carluke area. He met and married Mary Smith from Seneca Township. James and family farmed first on a farm west of Jarvis and then moved to the Booth farm on the McKenzie Road, Oneida in 1874. This farm is presently owned by Bruce Clark. Peter Yule, the youngest of nine children was born on the Booth farm in 1881. He was the grandfather of Ralph Yule.

James Yule bought his own farm in 1882 from John Madigan on the York Road. His son Peter Yule purchased the neighbouring farm in 1906 and acquired his share of the family farm in 1909. Peter farmed with his son J.C. and J.C. farmed with his son Ralph. Ralph and wife Marjorie purchased back the original family farm in 1998 and are presently farming with son Peter making this a five generation family farm.
